If you already have fishing reel and rod and all you need is a new fishing line or replace the old line of your reel. You will be confused with different options available in the market. You will get braided, fluorocarbon and monofilament among these varieties. Choosing a line is not difficult and this article will make your work much easier I hope.

Things to consider while choosing a fishing line are:

1. Kind of fish that you are chasing

2. Type of fishing that you are thinking of

3. Cost

Majority of fishing lines can be used no matter what type of fish you are going after. The important thing that you need to consider is the size of the fish. If you are going after smaller kinds like crappie, perch, trout or bluegill, you will need a test line of four to six pounds. Bigger species such as lake trout, walleye and bass will require eight to fifteen pound test line. If you are considering something bigger your requirements will be met with fishing line going up to 100 pound test line. The three important types of fishing line vary from two to 50 pound test line.

Just like most lines can be used with any type of fish, fishing lines can also be used any type of fishing. Monofilament the main and standard type of fishing line and has been existing from long time. It stretches a little bit when a fish bites. It can hold on to the strength of good knot. Among various fishing lines, it is much thicker. It is the cheapest line among others.

Similar to monofilament, fluorocarbon is also clear, but not very clear underwater. It doesn’t stretch like monofilament, so you will feel the bite of fish much quickly. Compared with monofilament, it is much thicker. This lets you to fish with a little heavier test line. It costs you more money compared to monofilament.

Braided line is something that includes a braided rope but the size is small. It is the thinnest kind of line among all. You need a different type of fishing knot for it, normally a Palomar knot, in order to be successful. Since it is very difficult to cut it, make sure you have scissors with you.
