I consider myself lucky that I got a chance to visit one of the loveliest places on the Earth, Cambridgeshire in the UK! As such, the entire England is like a dreamland for a person like me who is born in one of this planet’s zones called tropical. But in particular, Cambridgeshire is like an essence of England’s beauty with lots of stunning lakes and rivers, full of fish, where you can spend hours and hours fishing calmly while enjoying Nature’s splendor. What’s more, I also found a great fishing tackle shop in a village near Wisbech where I found all what I wanted for angling in this extremely pleasant area and which multiplied my enjoyment.
Cambridgeshire is a county of the world-famous Cambridge, and is full of amazing tourist spots, like Buckden Towers, Nene Park, lots of Nature reserves and museums. But as a fishing enthusiast, I was more interested in water bodies which gave me an unforgettable experience. Here are just a few of them.
Blackberry Pool
This is my most favorite spot being perfectly secluded offering the charm you desire the most! Just 1 ½ acre size, this tiny water body makes you realize what the real quiet is. Not many anglers come here; however it is a premium site for Carp fishing.
River Cam
Flowing through the Cambridge city center, the lovely River Cam is brimming with Pike, Chub, Eels, Dace, Bream, Roach and Coarse fish.
Vermuyden Lake
Named after Vermuyden the Dutch engineer who brought about drainage of the Fens, Vermuyden Lake is rather small, covering 2-3 acres, but is heavily stocked with Carp, Rudd, Tench and Roach. If you happen to go to Cambridgeshire, you should not miss this fishing paradise.
Abbey Lake
Spread in about 5 acres, in the extremely pleasant rural Cambridgeshire, Abbey Lake is famous for Carp fishing. The fish in the initial stock have crossed the 20-pound mark by now. Plus additional stocks of this great fighter were added of size ranging between 16 lb and 22 lb. So, you can imagine the riches of this water.
Willow Lake
Located in 6-7 acres Willow Lake is stocked with approximately 180 carps with about 70% more than 20 lb! Plus there are huge Catfish which are more than 75 lb! And there are Rudd, Bream, Roach and Tench too to spice up the fight.

I just cannot resist myself from mentioning about the charming tackle shop I met with in a village near Wisbech. A family-run business Baggin Up Tackle is operating since 25 years and has virtually everything you may want for an amazing fishing experience. They have a complete range of match fishing gear and products, and valuable advice for any products.
In short, if you want to experience sheer joy of fishing, Cambridgeshire is the place to go where you will get big fat fishes, Nature’s beauty to the fullest and the best tackle too!
